Artist Spotlight: Jaiden McCrann
In all the design classes I've taken, there was only one other Filipino girl like me eager to learn something our stereotypes did not. Design is different from what my family leans towards for into a career. Hopefully in the future I can make the design narrative into something, I and other Filipino girls like me, can identify with and see themselves in.
“Ang Kulay ng Kasaysayan” & “Dear Mother,” by Justin Angeles
Shower us once again with your love, like you used to do. And maybe, just maybe, we can all start a peaceful life anew.
“Molten Light” by CJ Peradilla
YOU TWO ARE FIGHTING AGAIN, and I am caught in between, eclipsed by your shadows. I try, at best, to keep my voice to myself, let the words escape from my lungs through the smoke of my cigarette, let the gin soak my thoughts into acid disinterest. At some point in the argument he drills his finger through the air to point at me, spits out I’m the one to blame. I offer him no response. You mimic my silence, feed my guilt
CJ Peradilla writes for a living. Her prose and poetry have appeared in DANAS, Otoliths, Sunday Times Magazine, and The Cabinet.
